The Bourne Legacy
I am currently reading the Bourne Legacy which is the 4th in the Bourne Novels. I enjoyed the trilogy by Robert Ludlum and I think it was meant to end there. As it is the 4th novel sounds like an add on to cash in on the popular Bourne movies. As any reader knows, the movies had 99% nothing in common with the novels. The novels were ingenious and very intricate.
Now in the 4th book it is written by Eric Van Lustbader based on the Robert Ludlum novels. In the very first chapter they kill off Alex Conklin and Dr Morris Panov. Bourne is once again framed for their murders. His family conveniently goes into hiding. A new killer which turns out to be his long lost son is after him.
Somehow it doensn't flow. The Bourne in the 3rd book was much older. The Bourne in this new book is evidently younger and scared. It's not the same Delta we know. He makes too many mistakes. The Delta we knew would have killed off the assasins easily.
Anyway I still am enjoying it, but it doesn't really feel like Ludlum's work. It looks like they are setting Bourne up for a new series of spy books, and conveniently killing off his roots and ties. A made for the movies novel.
