KUALA LUMPUR, July 2:
The pregnant doctor who was assaulted at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital and her unborn child are in stable condition.

Pos Malaysia Both are out of danger although doctors were fearful that the foetus would be lost after the seven-month pregnant doctor was brutally beaten unconscious by a robber yesterday.

The incident happened at the doctors’ call room on the fifth floor of the hospital.

Dang Wangi police chief Assistant Commissioner Kamal Pasha Jamal said the 31-year-old doctor had described her assailant as a foreigner of medium build.
He said police were mounting a search for the assailant but declined further details.
"We believe that the man was familiar with the hospital layout. He knew where the call room was, so we believe that he may have been watching the place for a while so that he could strike when there was no risk of being caught," he said after visiting the injured doctor.
Kamal said police would speak to representatives of several security companies for suggestions on how to beef up security at the hospital, including the possibility of putting up closed-circuit television cameras.
The doctor, who was on overnight duty at the hospital, had gone to the call room opposite the first class ward to sleep about 7.15am yesterday.
She woke up to find a man attempting to steal her handphone and valuables. She ran toward the door only to find it latched.
Her assailant then pulled her by the hair and punched her, causing her to pass out. At 9.15am, another doctor found her lying semi-conscious and bleeding from the nose.
He immediately informed the hospital’s consultant pulmonary and critical care physician Datuk Dr Jeyaindran Sinnadurai who treated her before admitting her to the coronary care unit.
