Dopod 838 Pro Camera vs Dopod 838 Cam

Here are some sample photos I took using the default settings of the Dopod 838 Pro (HTC Tytn) and the Dopod 838 (HTC Wizard). They were taken at the same time. The Pro has a macro function built in which is definitely an improvement. But I have also used my macro mod to take the close up pictures with the 838/Wizard for comparison. The picture on the left is taken with the Tytn/838 pro and the right is of course taken with the Wizard. Please click on it for a bigger picture.

Overall, the HTC Tytn performs well with it's built in macro and 2mp capability. In addition, it's 400mhz processor seems to eliminate any ghosting, except in night mode. This is also true for taking videos. The Tytn/Pro takes smooth videos compared to the choppy videos of the wizard. The exposure and white balance of both units did not perform well in dim lighting but as usual improved in good lighting. PDA cameras have come a long way and while it may not replace your DSLR or compact digicam, it certainly is useful to have on you all the time.
