Penang Lunitidal Setting

Time zone +8

Latitude 100 degrees east

Lunitidal interval +1

Hi Doc.
I just bought new Casio G-Shock Gulfman with tide graph.
Just want to ask something about Lunidital Interval setting.
U post in ur blog that for Penang we must enter +1 for interval time.
Does that mean +1 equal to 1:00?

Thanks.

Your welcome, had to figure it out myself. Anyway sometimes you may have to tweak it a little by observing the actual tides in your area.

Hello to all Lunitidal Interval seekers, i have a Gulfman myself and after much searching, and figuring it out like most of you out there do, i manage to somehow lock down the Lunitidal Interval setting for Kuala Lumpur. The closest coast for me to say would be Port Klang, hence the calculation below:

Long.: 102 degree East
Int.:6:30

After you key in the number, you can somehow cross reference it with the tidal forecast website below:

Enjoy~

if you need to check the tide:-

http://easytide.ukho.gov.uk (world wide)

http://easytide.ukho.gov.uk/EASYTIDE/EasyTide/ShowPrediction.aspx?PortID=4663&PredictionLength=7 (for Penang)

It is free and can be used to fine tune those Casio's

or if you happen to the UK:-

For your knowledge, the local Lunitidal interval can be calculated using :

Lunitidal Interval = Greenwich Interval - (0.069 * L) -----> negative value

By adding 12.42 to the answer above will give a positive local lunitidal value

where L=longitude for the location in degree (West longitudes are positive ; East longitudes are negative)

For our region (Peninsular Malaysia), we use +8 as our Greenwich interval, thus :

location: N 3°8' E 101°42' = N 3.13333° E 101.7°

Lunitidal interval for the above mentioned location can be derived by :

Lunitidal interval = +8 - [0.069 * (- 101.7)] = 15.0173 hour = 15:01
