Locums Allowed...Finally

Read in the Star Today

"From today, government doctors are allowed to do locum work in the private sector when they are off duty.

Dr Chua said there are five rules that doctors must observe before they take up locum services:

  • They must first obtain permission from their head of department,

  • They must give priority to their service at government hospitals,
  • They must not slacken in their work,

  • They can only do it on their days off or when they are on leave, and

  • They cannot perform locum services if they are in enforcement units."

  • This is good as they cannot stop it anyway. Also doctors need the extra income as the Government pay is low. Anyway when I worked in the G, I never did locums as I was too damn tired and too busy with too many calls to do it anyway. The only docs who have time to do it are in the health clinics or those who are in OPD or non-busy departments.
