Durian Insomnia

Durian Insomnia

One thing peculiar to Malaysia is the Durian, the reputable King of Fruits. It's thorny exterior protects a yellow creamy flesh not unlike custard except for it's overpowering smell. You either love it or hate it. Well I love it, and thats why I am awake at 4am. The durian is actually very rich in carbohydrates and ferments in your tummy leaving you hot and sweaty through the night. Normally during this durian season from May to June, diabetic gluciose control goes out the window. More cases of gout and peptic ulcers are reported. Why? Because it tastes sooo good!

Interesting. I just had one imported from Vietnam frozen to Australia and though i originally fell asleep i then woke at 3 am wide eyed with indigestion till dawn. Never happened in Asia before. I think freezing makes it even greasier and off. In Medan in Sumutra last week i had the mst amazing durian.
