Beware Power 1 Walnut

Once again a "traditional" medicine has been found to continue prescription drugs, this time the drug Viagra(Sildenafil) and Daonil (Glibenclamide). Who knows what your bomoh or sinseh may be mixing in the herbs. Sure it works, but nowhere as well as the original, and with all it's side effects like hypoglycaemia and heart attacks.

The other culprit is steroids, in which a lot of the Chinese traditional medicines contain extremely high doses. Sure it works wonders on your arthritis, but causes a lot of other side effects in the long term. Steroids work, but must be used properly in the correct dosing and period.

So it's amazing how a lot of so called "educated" patients will tell the doctor he/she does not want antibiotics or steroids or "painkillers" but will happily boil some herbs and swallow capsules of mysterious looking herbs.

From the Star

"Power 1 Walnut, a product of China firm Guangzhou Xinkuaili, claims to contain only natural herbs. But preliminary tests have shown it to contain drugs controlled under the Poisons Act - glibenclamide, a prescription drug for diabetes, and sildenafil, which is sold as Viagra."
