Apple iPhone in Penang

Apple iPhone in Penang
Originally uploaded by docfiles.

Yes I had my first touch of the Apple iPhone today at Gadza World in Queensbay Mall. It really is surprisingly small and thin, the pictures on the net do not do it justice. It is thinner than the HTC Touch and as long as my Dopod 838 Pro.

Here you see it rendering my Blog beautifully while connected to Wifi. Of course it does not work with any Malaysian Telcos, so it is a glorified mp3 and internet tablet via wifi.

The screen really is the most beautiful screen I have seen in any pda thus far. Simply amazing clarity. However the main downside I felt was te lack of a hardware keyboard. The on screen keyboard is quite difficult to use.

But all is forgiven as it really is a beatiful gadget.

I am not sure exactly what the condition of the iPhone is in Queensbay Mall that you mentioned.

Almost all iPhones can be used as a phone with the help of a hardware or software unlock. It can't be a over glorified iPod touch unless you choose for it to be.

The latest version 1.1.2 iPhones can't be unlocked using software method but can be unlocked for use outside the US/UK/France with the help of TurboSim. It's funny how the shop failed to inform its customers of that.

Do they even intend to sell that iPhone at all?!

I have a v 1.1.1 iPhone and it works fine. Aside from a few shortcomings, it's perfect. Besides, many of its flaws is fixable with software updates. Things like mass sms and Bluetooth file sharing are all available by the next update (you can update if the hackers can crack the newer update). That's just one of the many benefits of owning an iPhone. It's constantly improving.
