Bamboos at Gurney Drive

I wonder who's great idea it was to plant bamboo trees all along the gurney drive. Some of them are already dried up and dead creating more of an eyesore. I thought bamboo trees don't grow well by the beach anyway? Anyway somebody must have made a lot of money as all these trees will probably have to be dug up and relaced. Another waste of taxpayers money.
