Malaysian Blister Beetle

Guess what I found in my apartment today! The dreaded blister beetle...after seeing so many cases of it, I was scared to be a victim too! I took a shot and later captured it for a sample. Can't have it flying around my apartment! It's actually pretty big, about 2cm, dark brown in colour with long antennae. Anyway if I can find it in my apartment...beware of them! I tried to be careful when capturing it..I hope I don't end up with the burns!

Hi Doc,

I'm a beetle collector in the US. The photo you show is a long-horn beetle (family Cerambycidae), not a blister beetle (family Meloidae). There are no long-horns that I'm aware of that that can secrete a blister raising liquid.

I'd certainly like to have that specimen, or any others from your country for my collection. Best wishes.
