I read with disappointment in yesterday's Star about the deputy Health Minister planning for longer bonds for government specialists to prevent the brain drain. This is a classic case of using the stick when you should be using a carrot.

Don't you know that most doctors find satisfaction in treating the public. But we are turned away by the treatment we get, the beurocracy, meagre pay, uncertain postings...etc. Forcing doctors to stay without fixing the root problems just breeds resentment.

Look at our neighbours down south, people arelining up to join the government service.
