Avian Flu ... are we really ready?

Reading this in todays Star really made me laugh. At an earlier hospital meeting, the heads of the medical department made it clear that the Penang GH was grossly unprepared to handle any avian flu cases. In fact it was suggested that a district hospital should be designated as the sole infectious disease hospital. This is so that any outbreak will be contained instead of being at a main hospital where you have no control over the patients, relatives, press, politicians, rubber necks etc.

During the SARS outbreak we were so lucky not to have many fatilities. Definitely not to the measures taken like changing the SARS ward location twice etc.
