Sadly this seems to be happening very often. Cancer patients are easy targets as often there is no medical cure. In this aspect, Palliatve care medicine is an important part of treating the dying. Do not just wash your hands and send them home. That's when they go to the conmen. We as doctors must know when it is time to let go, but not to stop helping the patient to die well, with dignity an without the fear of pain.
