Loose Keyboard Fix for Dopod 838 Pro/ Hermes/ Cingular 8525/HTC Tytn
I do most of my Blogging via my trustee Dopod 838 Pro. I love the keyboard and tapping away with it is a daily affair. After sliding the keyboard out and in a thousand times plus minor knocks, there is some loosening of the mechanism that keeps the slider in place. The keyboard tends to slide out a bit whenever I squeezed the pda or held it firmly. So here is a simple safe fix that anyone can do.

When you slide out the keyboard, there are 2 rails behind the screen that hold the keyboard in place. The idea is to make the slider mechanism tighter so it has more grip.
To do this, all you need is some clear scotch tape, a scissors to cut out 2 cm pieces of the tape, and the PDA's stylus.
Place the clear scotch tape on both sides of the rails denoted by the yellow boxes. The idea is to let the tape secure evenly and snugly into the sides of the rails.

To achieve a good fit, the tip of the stylus is used to push the sides of the tape into the side of the rails. Make sure it is smooth and without any bubbles of air trapped inside. This may take a few tries. But tape is cheap anyway! It is important to get the tape flat onto the side and bottom of the rail so that it will not bunch up.
Do it for both sides of the rails. I use 2 to 3 layers of clear plastic scotch tape to get a very nice snug fit. You have to experiment and see how many layers you need for your pda.
Once again, the end result, a smooth and snug keyboard that doesn't open up unless you want it to. Good luck, hope you found this useful!

Hi, nice post.
Btw, I'm from Penang, owns a Dopod 838Pro ... and have been to med school b4 (albeit for only 2 weeks, then changed to Engineering) :)
Guess we have quite a few things in common :D
it really helped me! thanks!
theres another way to do this which lasts for good and doesnt even mean taking the hermes apart.
I did it this evening. All you do is carefully push down the edges of the slider (where you would have put tape!) and push down slightly at the end.It works perfectly.
thanks, its a nice solution tho.
anyways, do u have any ideas on how to take out my pen stylus, it stuck inside cos my lil brother put some hard glue in it. thx
