Painless Injection Technique
The main thing a patient fears most(I am terrified too!) is an injection. It's just not naturale to have someone poke you with a needle.
However there are some techniques that minimize the pain a lot. These tips can be found from John Murtaghs excellent books on General Practice.
This one works well for IM injections.
1. Massage the area well with a spirit swab to relax the muscle.
2. Use a smaller gauge needle of course
3. Use your finger to firmly slap the injection site a few times
4. Insert the needle quickly just after you slap the skin.
5. Deliver the medicine and withdraw the needle quickly.
Try it and see, it works on most patients I inject.
1 Comments:
That study refers to the IM injections given mainly to the gluteal region in obese patiente (like me..heh). What I meant was for IM injections to the biceps/arm for injections like Antihistamines, Vacinations, Antibiotics, ATT injections.
But anyway you are right, you have to make sure your needle is long enough to do the job.
