Evaluation and Management of Infants and Young Children with Fever

Since I am starting work in a GP environment again, I thought I'd share some useful articles I came across. Last week I say a 3 month old infant with a viral fever of 38 degrees. Now in the hospital environment I would just give the infant the correct dose of PCM and advise tepid sponging to avoid a febrile fit. If there is no focus of infection such as a UTI, URTI, Pneumonia or Otitis Media, it should resolve.
However in a GP practice, the parents expect medications...so what to give? Perhaps you can share a bit with me.

This is a useful article by the American Family Physician which has flow charts on how to treat fever in young children. Very useful.
